September, October and November

A RV park. Guano. Both surgeries are done. Had my last surgery on November 6. And yes, once again I remembered to thank every one in the operating room for their help, before I was put under. A simple thing, but how often do you think it happens?

Left foot still in splints. The surgeon had trouble with my big toe. It had moved outward over the months so it was laying under the #2 and 3 toes. Didn’t want to come back to its original position.
So not only is there a titanium plate with 7 screws but there is also a 4½” rod driven through the top of the toe and into my foot. Wonder what all that is going to feel like when walking.

Probably be out of splints in another 2 weeks or so and into a boot for another couple weeks. Is this what is referred to as, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel? I will then get back to daily walks. Boot equats with short ones. But the ball will be in my court and I’m gonna pick it up. Don’t think I will be running with it.

Finally had a new set of steps put in. Definitely safer than the dirtbike stand.

A friend in Maine told me about Heather Cox Richardson and her, ‘Letters from an American.’ I find them informative and insightful. You will want to read the November 26 and 30 entries. If you choose not to subscribe, click on the button to the left to get to the next page.

Ever take in an episode of Seth Meyer’s ‘A Closer Look’ on YouTube?
Might want to watch, ‘Donald Trump has won the 2024 election. Now what. A Closer Look’

Wow. Yes the first part is pretty much his comic style but the last part is toned down, mentioning our ongoing problems and telling how we need to come together, “to begin the hard work of making the real world we want to live in.”

On forms we have to fill out from time to time, there is generally a line that asks, who is to be notified in case of an emergency. Single people with no family, can we type in, ‘a good doctor’?

I’ve pretty much have been doing just token exercises for probably two years now. Some times I get stoked—some times not. Recently I came across chair workouts. Huh. Thought this might be a way to start back—sitting down.

One benefit of having to stay in an RV park is having daily wi-fi access. Youtube offers a slew of channels for such workouts. I happened to start out with one that is still one of my favorites.

It is called, “These 10 CHAIR EXERCISES Will Change Your Entire Body”
www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3CdGH4-XM4

It is from the ‘Body Now’ channel on YouTube. I do quite a few other workouts from the channel, as well as, from other similar channels. I also do chair yoga. Going on a month now with pretty much daily workouts. Might finally be on the way to gettin’ my life back.

One idea I picked up in a workout from the Senior Shape Fitness channel was the use of wrist weights. I purchased, ‘Pilates Wrist Ankle Weights’ (Amazon), 1 lb, set of 2. There are 8 weights for each of the two wide straps. Four are stiched onto the band and the other 4 weights are slipped on as one sees fit. So one has the option of 5 different weights. Anyway, I now use them during my workouts and keep them on as I go about the day.

If you are looking for more intense chair workouts, look at those of Donovan Green at the Chair Fit Camp channel. Here is one of his.

If you want to exercise efficiently, you want to keep your heartrate in mind. It is a simple way to know if you’re doing too much or not enough during a workout. One needs to find their target heart rate. There is a formula for calculating this and it is based on one’s age and the zone of intensity you are shooting for. For me, my target heart rate should stay between 94-111 bpm during a moderate level (64%-76%) of activity. Simple. One’s target heart rate will depend on your current fitness level and age, which means it will change as your cardiovascular endurance increases or as you get older.

This mother was flying to Europe with her eight rambunctious children. After an hours-long layover, which she spent chasing and corralling her brood, they finally boarded their plane and arrived at their destination. At customs, the official asked if she was carrying contraband such as drugs, alcohol or weapons.
The mother calmly looked the official in the eye and replied, “I assure you, if I had any of those items, I would have used them all by now.”

The ball is in your court. Pick it up and do something with it.
